Cookie Policy

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage and pixels — do comparable things. In this policy “cookies” covers all of them.

First-party cookies are set by us. Third-party cookies are set by another organisation whose service appears on our pages. Session cookies are deleted when you close the browser; persistent cookies remain until they expire or you delete them.

2. Our approach

• Consent first. Only strictly necessary storage is written before you make a choice. Analytics and marketing cookies are set only after you opt in.
• Reject is equally prominent. The banner offers Accept all, Reject all and Manage at the same level. Refusing is not made harder than agreeing.
• No pre-ticked boxes. Every optional category is off by default.
• Revisited annually. Your choice is remembered for 12 months, then we ask again.
• No cross-site profiling. We do not use tracking pixels that build a profile of you across unrelated websites.

Where you are in the UK or the EEA, we rely on your consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and the ePrivacy Directive, except for strictly necessary cookies which are exempt.

3. Categories we use

Strictly necessary — always on

Required for the site to work: routing, load balancing, security, and remembering your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off, because without them the site cannot function or your preference cannot be honoured. They do not identify you and are not used for advertising.

Analytics — off unless you allow it

Aggregated measurement of which pages are read, how people arrive, and where they leave. IP addresses are truncated before storage and we do not attempt to identify individuals. Used only to decide what to write and what to fix.

Marketing — off unless you allow it

Attribution for campaigns we run on professional networks and search, so we can tell which ones are worth continuing. Set only after opt-in and never used to build a profile of you across unrelated sites.

4. Cookie inventory

This inventory is reviewed quarterly. If we add a cookie, this table is updated before it is deployed and — where the change is material — your consent is requested again.

5. Changing your choices

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time. The simplest route is to clear this site’s stored data in your browser, which removes the recorded preference and causes the banner to appear again on your next visit.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out while consent was in place, and it does not affect strictly necessary storage.

6. Browser controls

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most offer a stricter mode for third-party cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of this and most other sites. Guidance is published by each browser vendor under “cookies and site data” in their privacy settings.

7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Browser Do Not Track signals have no agreed standard and we do not respond to them. We do honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal: where your browser or extension sends GPC, we treat it as an opt-out of analytics and marketing cookies and as a valid opt-out of sale or sharing under applicable US state law. Since we do not sell or share personal information in any case, the practical effect is that optional cookies remain off.

8. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our use of cookies changes. The date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes are accompanied by a fresh consent request rather than a silent update.
